About Us

Why join PMIC Support group?

Emotional and behavioral health challenges and crises take a significant mental and physical toll on individuals, families, loved ones, and communities. I navigated a lot of my journey alone, but you shouldn’t have to. Here at PMIC, we meet monthly to provide you a safe space to share your journey, learn about resources for you and your loved ones and provide hope while on your journey to wellness.

Our Founder

Cheryl S. Atwood-Monsanto

Our History

PMIC was founded in 2021 as a result of the challenges I faced on my journey while caring for my loved one diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Not only is it hard for a child whose brain is still developing to understand what’s going on with their mental health, it was challenging for me to provide the care she needed and to also keep my mental health in check as well. I spent countless hours with doctors and school personnel with the goal of first identifying the source of depression and then putting accommodations in place to help my daughter successfully graduate high school.

At the time, I had no knowledge of the importance of having a mental health advocate. I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I’m confident that if I had a mental health advocate early in the process, I would have successfully acquired an IEP way before the 12th grade. My journey would have been less stressful, less expensive and more productive for both of us.

Our Mission

To create a safe place for parents and caregivers to share their personal journeys, feelings and coping strategies while caring for their children with a mental illnesses.
